Innovations 2 Photo Shoot and Final Garments

These are my final garments from the Innovations 2 project. As you can see, I created a lingerie play suit and a pair of corseted high waisted trousers. The play suit acts as a foundation garment underneath the trousers, syncing in the waist and can be worn separately. The play suit also has embroidered padded hips to add extra curve to the body. The trousers contain boning and lacing to also shape the waist and hips into the classic 1950s hourglass shape. The ruffles on the trouser also echo the floral shapes I was inspired by. The outfit contains many lingerie elements, but can still be worn outside of the bedroom. Thank you to Emma for modelling them.

Innovations 2 Sketchbook

Here are some sketchbook pages from my last university project, Innovations 2. The brief was to think of a problem within clothing and solve it. My problem was that there are so many beautiful pieces of lingerie that you can't wear outside of the bedroom, therefore create something that could be worn else where. My main inspirations were 1950s lingerie, Dior foundation garments, floral shapes and 1800's interiors.

Shape and Silhouette Experimentation

My current university project is called Innovations 2. We have been pushed to try and create new, interesting shapes with a variety of workshops. The first was Drape, Drape. I created these floral and Grecian type shapes by pinning jersey on the stand and having a play with the fabric. I also experimented with different ruffle placement and flounce placement to create feminine and structural shapes. Another workshop was Wear it Wrong. I took a pair of trousers then a long line bra and created something completely different.

Initial Inspiration.

I am currently working on a project designing for the menswear label Farrell. Here are some of my mood boards to get my ideas flowing before creating a range plan.
Farrell as a brand look to very classic and British clothing. Some words that sum up Farrell for me would be working class, well groomed, modest, authentic, masculine, traditional, cheeky and honest.
In these boards I have tried to address the feel of the brand.
I am becoming very influenced by mod and skinhead fashion of the 1960s-1980s. I feel these sub cultures are truly British and the whole meaning behind these groups really relates to the Farrell brand. Mods and skinheads take great pride in what they wear, good quality and classic. I feel these working class lads would save up their hard earnings for that right suit to show off on a Friday night out.
Farrell are also very influenced by military pieces, therefore I have decided to include some images of soldiers and sailors. Along side these images are everyday, hard working men.
I am also always influenced by musicians, actors and other cultural people within my work. I really feel music and fashion go hand in hand and these figures clothing style is extremely important.
